Workplace Safety: Because Domestic Violence Doesn’t Stay at Home

Nearly 1/3 of American women report physical or sexual abuse by their husband, boyfriend or intimate partner at least once in their lives. Some of the affects of domestic violence in the workplace are absenteeism, inability to concentrate, low self-esteem, and decreased productivity. This introductory session offers management teams and organizational leadership information about how domestic violence impacts their workplace, and what they can do about it. (1 hour)

Domestic violence doesn't stay at home. It follows your employees to work, and carries with it direct and indirect costs. This session on the workplace impact of domestic violence will provide guidance for managers on recognizing and responding to affected employees in conjunction with Security staff. Topics include recognizing signs that indicate an employee may be in an abusive situation; approaching the subject and responding to a disclosure; making appropriate workplace adjustments and setting boundaries; referring to local resources; workplace safety planning; and employees as domestic violence offenders.(2 hours)

Domestic Violence in the Workplace: Training for Human Resource Professionals

This session focuses on helping Human Resource professionals to understand the definition and dynamics of intimate partner violence and how it impacts the workplace. Participants will learn to work with managers and employees to reduce risk and develop workplace safety plans; to recognize signs of possible abuse in an employee; to respond to employees who are abusive; and understand the basic functions of Protection from Abuse Orders (PFA) and the Address Confidentiality program (ACP). The session will conclude with presentation and discussion of several case studies of domestic violence in the workplace. (2 hours)
