Circle of Life
The Circle of Life is used by many organizations and businesses as a component of employee wellness and retention programs. It incorporates elements of strategic planning on an individual scale using structured tool and assessments. Most often conducted as a 6-8 week group series, it can also be adopted for use in a retreat setting where participants are introduced to the process.
In Circle groups, participants evaluate twelve areas of their lives ranging from nutrition and exercise to life purpose and self-esteem, then select one area on which to focus. Next, participants assess their “readiness” for change, design a blueprint for change, and take action steps to achieve their goals. Stress mastery practices that can be incorporated into a busy workday are included into each session because at the center of the Circle is SELF CARE.
Circle groups can be conducted at your facility for your team or group. Open enrollment Circle groups are also available at the Samaritan Counseling Center for anyone wishing to participate. For additional information regarding CIRCLE OF LIFE, please click here.
Domestic Violence and Workplace Safety – Businesses and Organizations
Domestic violence impacts 1 in 3 women in her lifetime. There is a compelling business reason to focus on it in the workplace: the impact walks right in the door with affected employees. Studies indicate that 75% of victims face harassment from their abusers at work. They often experience impaired work performance as a result of a broad range of emotional consequences, including depression, anxiety and the inability to concentrate, all of which result in lost productivity. The high health care and diminished productivity costs employers $3-$5 billion each year.
The Walking Together program offers consultation to businesses and organizations on domestic violence employee assistance policy development and implementation, general educational sessions about domestic violence for employees, and training for managers, human resource staff, and security guards. We also provide training and consultation on recognizing, responding, and reporting child abuse for organizations working with children.
Examples of educational and training sessions include:
- Workplace Safety: Because Domestic Violence Doesn’t Stay at Home
- Training for Managers and Security Staff
- Developing Employee Awareness and Assistance Policies

Reducing the risk of child sexual abuse for business and organizations working with children
Any organization working with children is a place where abuse may occur, or where children who have been abused elsewhere may present with symptoms or disclose what has happened to them. Child sexual abuse is one of the most prevalent types of abuse, and is often difficult to detect. The Walking Together program offers consultation to organizations on developing child protection policies, as well as training on mandated reporting of abuse and responding to disclosures.
- Mandated Reporting of Child Abuse
- Responding to a Disclosure of Sexual Abuse

Screening for Domestic Violence: It’s a Health Care Issue – Medical Providers
Domestic violence is more prevalent than cancer, diabetes and heart disease. It is associated with numerous health conditions and health risk behavior. The American Medical Association, as well as other medical organizations, recommends universal screening of all female patients for domestic violence at all new patient visits, and at least once a year thereafter.
We provide staff education, consultation, and clinical training on patient screening and response for health care systems and medical practices on implementing and sustaining domestic violence screening programs. Our services are customized to meet your needs, and are based on national consensus guidelines, research validated tools, and best practices. Services we offer include:
