The Whole Organizes the Parts: Leadership and the Congregation as a Family System The Samaritan Counseling Center is pleased to announce its 2010 Pastoral Leadership Series: The Whole Organizes the Parts: Leadership and the Congregation as a Family System. The series, open to any interested clergy person and professional church staff, consists of a quarterly breakfast at which a topic related to family systems is presented, followed by an opportunity to attend a three-session group the next month. The groups allow participants to explore a more in-depth understanding of the topic in an environment of collegial support and mutual learning, and include integrative work to help with practical application of the theory. Grist for the Mill September 16, 2010 Clergy Breakfast 7:30 am - 9:00 am YOU ARE INVITED to help us create a “living text” by submitting a case study about a ministry issue or congregational change you are engaged in or have completed. It may be a difficult pastoral counseling situation, staff conflict, a budget shortfall that is causing divisiveness, or a redirection of how you will “be church” in order to grow and thrive over the next decade. These will become our “grist for the mill” for the September 16 breakfast, and the follow-up Leadership series October 7, 14 & 21. You may elect to submit the case for review confidentially. Guidelines and format are available here. The leadership series is offered as part of our expanding Clergy and Congregation Care Program. Leadership Group Series Each of the three sessions will include a brief opening didactic on family systems, adaptive change, or social ecology theories and how to apply them to case presentation and discussion. We will then engage in case studies from participants submitted in written or oral form. Group members will be asked to exercise a strict spirit of confidentiality for the information presented in the case presentations. This series will be held at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 750 Greenfield Road in Lancaster from 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM. The cost of the series is $75 for partner clergy (information on the partner program may be found here) and $100 for non-partner clergy. Payment must be received with registration. To register by phone, please contact Barbara Tolbert at 717-560-9969, extension 256 or email at btolbert@scclanc.org. You may also print the registration form. We accept Mastercard, Visa and Discover. Registration must be received at least one week in advance of the start of the series. Mark Your Calendars! 2010 Clergy Breakfast Dates
