2009 Pastoral Leadership Series
Challenges of Congregational Ministry

The Samaritan Counseling Center is pleased to announce its 2009 Pastoral Leadership Series: Challenges of Congregational Ministry. The series expands our quarterly clergy breakfast meetings to include a three session group series on each topic presented at the quarterly breakfast. The series provides clergy with the opportunity to explore a more in-depth understanding of the subject in an environment of collegial support and mutual learning.

This new leadership series is offered as part of our expanding Clergy and Congregation Care Program.

Communicating with the Congregation in Times of Crisis
November 12, 2009
Clergy Breakfast
7:30 am - 9:00 am
St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church
10 Delp Road
Corner of Delp Road and Lititz Pike

When a congregation is suddenly confronted with a tragic event, such as the death of a child, an unethical act of a trusted leader or finds itself in the public eye, it becomes critical that leadership effectively communicate with the congregation and in some situations, with the broader community through the media. This presentation will focus on the practical issues of transparent communication, reducing anxiety and dealing with the emotions, such as loss and grief.

There is no charge for the clergy breakfast for our partner churches (information on the partner program may be found here). For non-partner clergy, the cost of the breakfast is $10. To register by phone, please contact Barbara Tolbert at 717-560-9969, extension 256 or email at btolbert@scclanc.org. Payment must be received at the time of registration. You may also print the registration form. We accept Mastercard, Visa and Discover. Registration must be received at least one week in advance of the breakfast.

Leadership Group Series

Using the insights of family systems, communication theory and case studies, group members will be helped to recognize and address the complex emotional reactions of congregation members to tragic events, leadership in times of crisis, and practical help in working with the media.
