Our Mission:

The Samaritan Counseling Center fosters hope and healing through professional counseling, consultation and education while respecting and integrating personal and spiritual values.

The Samaritan Counseling Center and our services are supported by the generous contributions of individuals, businesses, corporations and foundations. Your gift makes it possible for us to subsidize fees for individuals, families and children who have little or no financial resources, as well as provide quality programming on mental health issues to members of our community.

Community Forum: The Grooming Process- How Sexual Offenders Engage Children and Why Children Don’t Tell
Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster
February 21, 2012
6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Presenter: Linda Crockett, Director of Education & Consultation

In light of the many recent sex abuse scandals in the local news, many of us are asking how to empower children to distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate touch, who to talk to when an adult is mistreating someone, and who to turn to for support. In this presentation, participants will learn about the calculated process offenders often employ to entrap children into sexual activity, and to keep them from telling anyone. This process is called grooming, and offenders use it with parents as well as their children, integrating themselves into the child’s “safe world”. Understanding how it works is vital to protecting the children in our schools, communities, homes, and congregations.

Prior to Linda’s talk, there will be a half hour reception in Emerson Hall with light refreshments. Childcare will be provided. This is a free program; as always, donations are appreciated. The church is located at 538 West Chestnut Street Lancaster, PA 17603. If you have questions about the program, or anticipate utilizing childcare, please contact Kate Prisby at 717-393-1733 ex. 202 or email dre@uuclonline.org
