Walking Together educates medical professionals on recognizing and responding to various types of family violence. Workshops in our "Safe Harbor" series are designed to be provided on-site in medical offices or hospital facilities and to provide information on the long-term health implications of childhood sexual trauma in adults, including how to screen patients, using a "Universal Precautions" approach, responding to disclosure, touch and boundary issues, interacting with survivors during examinations and procedures, and local resources available for referral.

Linda Crockett
The intimacy involved in breast exams and labor are particularly problematic for survivors and can be experienced as replication of earlier trauma. Designed for facility staff involved in breast screening and obstetrics, this workshop provides information on utilizing a "Universal Precautions" approach to determine if a patient is a survivor of sexual trauma, education and awareness about the prevalence of abuse, sensitivity to signals that suggest abuse history, and how to interact appropriately with survivors.
