Linda Crockett joined the Samaritan Counseling Center in 2003. She directs Education and Consultation services, including the Clergy and Congregation Care, and the Walking Together: Support for Survivors of Family Violence programs. She represents the Center in the national Clergy and Congregation Care program sponsored by the Samaritan Institute in Denver, CO.
Certified as a health & wellness coach in the Circle of Life system, Linda coaches individuals, and facilitates groups and retreats for professionals with an emphasis on those in ‘care giving’ positions. In her role as director of the Center’s Clergy & Congregation Care program, she works directly with clergy and congregational leaders as an organizational consultant, primarily using a family systems and adaptive change approach. She is trained in Appreciative Inquiry, and has facilitated congregational processes using AI.
Her area of specialty is in sexual abuse and domestic violence. Since she developed the Walking Together program in 2003, it has reached over 9,000 people with training, education and direct service. Through this program, Linda offers specialized training and consulting to medical, therapeutic and religious professionals on recognizing and responding to victims of family violence, and offers broad-based education through public workshops and conferences. She has provided over 700 hours of clinical training and consultation on recognizing and responding to victims of domestic violence for Lancaster General, the county’s largest health care system and employer.
Linda was awarded the Benjamin Rush Medal by the Lancaster Medical Society in 2003 for her work with victims of sexual assault. She has published numerous articles on healing from the traumas of war and childhood sexual abuse. During the 1980s, she led delegations of volunteers from Central Pennsylvania into war zones in El Salvador, Central America, to assist refugees. Her book, The Deepest Wound: How a Journey to El Salvador Led to Healing from Mother-Daughter Incest (2001, Writer's Showcase) was awarded first place in the international "Life Stories" category by Writer's Digest in March 2003. The Journal of Pastoral Care and Counseling recommends its use in seminary and graduate school classrooms, and by therapists.
